Top 10 Government Universities in India.

1. University of Delhi (DU):

Established in 1922, the University of Delhi (DU) is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious educational institutions. The government of India provides funding for it. DU is unique in that it caters to students at all stages of their academic careers. Research conducted by India Today found that DU is the best university in India. Eighty-three Indian universities have given DU their seal of approval. North and South Campus are DU’s primary campuses. There are 34 electronic libraries and 29 electronic databases accessible via the Delhi University Library System (DULS).

2. University of Calcutta (CU):

On January 24, 1857, work began on what would become the University of Calcutta (CU). University of Calcutta is a government-run institution in the Indian city of Kolkata. This institution was the first in India to gain recognition in South Asia for its comprehensive curriculum and western-style infrastructure. The College Street location is home to this prestigious educational institution. It also has campuses at South Sinthi, Hazra, Alipore, Rajabazar, and Ballygunge. Its eight faculties house its sixty-five departments. Moreover, it has 710 educators, 17 research institutes, 3,000 support workers, and an estimated 11,000 graduate students.

3. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU):

You can find Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, the country’s capital. The University of Central America is the flagship institution of the government. Recent polling by India Today placed it at number two on the list of the country’s best universities. The finest thing is that this university has been awarded 3.9 out of a possible 4.0 credits by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 1969, Indira Gandhi used the Indian Parliament Act to establish this prestigious institution of higher education. It consists of ten schools and four separate facilities.

4. Banaras Hindu University (BHU):

Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya established what is now known as Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1916. Located in the city of Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, this institution is a government-run college. Approximately 20,000 students call this institution home, making it Asia’s biggest residential university.

This prestigious institution is home to 140 individual departments spread over 4 institutions and 14 campuses. Sixty different hostels throughout the globe are available to students. Regarding higher education, a number of BHU departments stand out as particularly advantageous. IIT-BHU, IAS-BHU, IESD-BHU, and IMS-BHU are just a few.    

5. University of Mumbai (MU):

Dr John Wilson established the University of Mumbai (UoM or MU) in 1857; in 2012, it was placed number 41 on a list of the best engineering schools in the world. Among the best universities in India, MU placed fifth. There are really two locations of this institution in Mumbai. The one in question is the Kalina campus, and it may be found on the outskirts of Mumbai. The second, called the Fort campus, is situated in southern Mumbai. There are degree-granting institutions at both sites.

6. University of Hyderabad:

Prof. Gurbaksh established what is now known as the “University of Hyderabad” or the “Central University of Hyderabad” in 1974. It was rated 7th in India as per a 2012 study, making it the best university in the country. The graduate and postgraduate courses offered at this institution are world-famous. Approximately 5,000 students are enrolled at this prestigious institution, which includes 400 teaching staff members. Students looking to further their professions may choose from among 150 courses. To increase student participation, the University of Maryland has just added the School of Economics to its roster of academic units.

7. Osmania University:

Nawab Osman Ali Khan established Osmania University in 1918. You may find it in Andhra Pradesh; specifically, in the city of Hyderabad. It was the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, Nawab Osman Ali Khan. With a total area of 1300 acres, this institution is home to eight different colleges on campus, five different constituent colleges, four different postgraduate centres, six different research institutes, and eight different academic centres. With a thousand different institutions under its wing, Osmania University is perhaps the greatest educational institution in all of Asia. This college has been reauthorized with a “A” grade, which is the highest possible rating.

8. Aligarh Muslim University (AMU):

Sir Syed Ahmed founded Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Because it is a public institution, it receives its funding directly from the Indian government. The primary focus of this school is to prepare Muslim students for careers in the government of the Republic of India.

9. Jamia Millia Islamia University:

In the year 1920, while India was still ruled by the British, Jamia Millia Islamia University was established in Aligarh. The school’s name, which is derived from the Urdu for “national,” denotes “Islamic” university. This prestigious institution was designated as a core university in 1988 by an act of parliament. The university’s nine schools house 39 different departments. One of its finest features is that its 18000 students are spread throughout 33 research facilities.

10.  Pondicherry University:

Located in the southern Indian territory of Pondicherry, Pondicherry University was established by the government of the Republic of India in 1985. Puducherry Institution is a key university located in an annexe of Union Territories. This school offers both on-campus and online classes. There are 35,000 students enrolled in its regular courses at its 87 linked institutions, and another 27,000 are taking advantage of its distance learning options.
