Success or failure is determined by one’s habits, which in turn is determined by one’s level of production.

Those who have accomplished a great deal in life tend to be open about the role their habits have played in their achievement. Therefore, the greatest method to “stand on the shoulders of giants” is to study the routines of already established business people, thinkers, executives, and other achievers. Success or failure is ultimately determined by one’s habits, which in turn are built upon by their actions.

To really emulate someone, you must examine every aspect of their life and model your own after their every move. There have been many studies, books, and articles written on the methods used by successful business owners, but far less attention has been paid to the ways in which they spend their downtime. The affluent and the successful have habits outside of work that are worth exploring.

1. They wake up at the same time

Those that regularly achieve their goals don’t waste their weekends sleeping in. That’s because much of research shows that keeping to a regular sleep-wake schedule is helpful for mental stability. An unstable sleep schedule may ruin the remainder of our week and throw off our internal clock. Successful individuals enable their bodies to keep a constant rhythm by waking up at the same hour on the weekends.

Apple CEO Tim Cook gets up at 3:45 a.m., and Ellevest CEO and co-founder Sallie Krawcheck gets going at 8:00 a.m., so it’s no surprise that both of them are among the early birds. People like Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Mark Zuckerberg, and many more all make the most of their mornings.

2. They keep learning

One of the biggest mistakes individuals make after graduating from college is to believe that they have finished their time of learning. Learning is a lifelong pursuit and never-ending process. There is always more to learn and develop within ourselves. It’s a fact that successful business owners have a knack for incorporating that kind of planning into their schedules.

Bill Gates, the great entrepreneur and philanthropist, is known to immerse himself in books during his “think weeks,” during which he takes a break from running his multibillion dollar businesses. Reading, taking online courses, and listening to podcasts on the weekends, during breaks, or while settling down before bed are all great ways to maintain learning and developing new skills, which is why they are essential for anybody who wants to keep progressing professionally and personally.

3. They take care of their health

Good health is a major aspect in the achievement of business and professional goals. There is a lot of research showing a connection between physical and mental wellness. Even when they’re very busy, some of the world’s most successful businesspeople still make time to work out regularly.

The benefits of a healthy lifestyle extend well beyond the body. Moreover, it strengthens one’s mental and emotional health, which is often overlooked by business owners. The idea that one’s body and mind are intrinsically linked dates back thousands of years. If we take care of our bodies, we may expect to have more joy in life. Having a regular exercise routine and eating a balanced diet not only gives us more energy to focused on our daily tasks, but also helps us establish more integrity in our lives. There’s no hiding the fact that healthy workers provide better results. Their concentration, stamina, motivation, and originality all skyrocket. These are only some of the numerous advantages of maintaining good health. So, if you want to bulk up, you should go the gym first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and every weekend.

4. They connect with loved ones

Gary Vaynerchuk, a well-known authority on social media and business, is noted for putting in a full day’s work every weekday. On the weekends, though, he says, he goes “all-in on the kids” and spends as much time as possible with his loved ones. Success at business and at home do not have to be in a perpetual tug of war, despite common thinking to the contrary. People who have achieved a high level of material success nonetheless value interpersonal relationships highly and acknowledge their importance to their continued success and happiness.

Sacrificing our relationships for the sake of money prosperity is the most tragic thing that may happen to us in this life. The constant demands of work and social life, as well as the demands of our own personal pursuits, may make life seem like a juggling act at times. Finding that equilibrium, however inadequate it may seem at the moment, is a huge step forward.

5. They pick up a hobby

People are more healthy and productive when they have something they like doing. These side ventures are often unrelated to their regular jobs and have little to do with producing money. Among the numerous possible hobbies include playing an instrument, hiking, taking photographs, penning a book, and so on. Activities like this provide mental space and prime the brain for high-stakes decision-making and strategic planning when the working day really heats up.

Success is a process

A successful business may benefit from numerous additional techniques and guidelines. Don’t beat yourself up if you feel discouraged by how far you still need to go after reading through all of those suggestions. Each of us is a work in progress. Sometimes it’s not as important to reflect on your past accomplishments as it is to anticipate your future successes. Therefore, remember to have pleasure in the trip. In the end, achievement is a journey, not a final objective. As an added bonus, it’s a humorous one.
