Two and a half crore rupees in cash were reportedly discovered at Ram Prakash Jeweller. In comparison, 41.5 lakh rupees in cash and 133 gold coins were discovered at Vaibhav Jain, an assistant to Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into allegations of corruption against Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain’s assistants has yielded over Rs 2 crore in cash and jewellery. On Monday, the aides of Satyendar Jain were searched at their home.
Ram Prakash Jeweller was discovered to have Rs 2.23 crore in cash, while Vaibhav Jain was found to have Rs 41.5 lakh in cash, including (about) Rs 20 lakh in cash and 133 gold coins.
Officials said the Enforcement Directorate raided Satyendar Jain’s home as part of a money-laundering investigation tied to an alleged hawala trading case against him.
As part of a “follow-up” in the investigation, authorities conducted searches at Jain’s Delhi home and other sites.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister, slammed the government after the latest ED raids on Satyendar Jain and his aides. “There is no doubt in my mind that the Prime Minister’s full support for the Aam Aadmi Party, particularly in Delhi and Punjab. In spite of the might of every agency, God is with us.”
Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, and the Delhi health minister, Satyendra Jain, have been targeted by BJP politician Kapil Mishra, who said on Twitter that “Crores of cash and gold coins are being confiscated from Satyendra Jain’s residence, according to Kejriwal, he is an honest guy
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of Delhi said: “There are no bounds to BJP’s deception and shamelessness! At Satyendar Jain’s residence, just Rs 2,79,000 had been recovered. To accuse anybody of being close allies of Satyendar Jain after an investigation that lasted several hours has been wrong, according to the BJP. How much farther will the BJP stoop?”
Saurabh Bhardwaj, an AAP lawmaker, was asked about the issue and replied, “Satyendar Jain’s wife and daughter received notice of the ED raid’s seizure letter. According to the memo, the search yielded numerous papers, a single digital device, and a total of Rs 2,79,200. However, they were not taken into custody.”
Sanjay Singh, an AAP lawmaker, also came out against the ED searches, stating, “Nothing was found in the interrogation of Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain. ED discovered no tampering. Why was he detained when they maintained there was no FIR against him in the High Court? The raid was carried out in order to conceal the worldwide embarrassment that India is now experiencing.”
According to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 57-year-old Jain was arrested on May 30 and detained till June 9.
After questioning Jain and other accused hawala operators over the last three days, the agency is said to have uncovered additional evidence and connections. Officials said the raids were done to get further information on these inputs.
A minister in the Delhi government, Jain has no specific duties. On June 2, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was given control of more than half a dozen of Jain’s ministries.
