In her first official act as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss will today take the oath of office and announce her Cabinet appointments.
As a result of her victory against Rishi Sunak in the Conservative leadership race, Liz Truss will be sworn in as the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Tuesday. After Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, Britain will have its third female prime minister in Liz Truss. But there won’t be any white men in the top cabinet positions.
With 81,326 votes to Rishi Sunak’s 60,399, Liz Truss won the party primary. On Monday, Liz Truss, the British Foreign Minister and head of the Conservative Party, was chosen as the country’s next Prime Minister.
By Tuesday night, the government should have begun announcing who would be given charge of the most important ministries. There will be no white male serving in any of Britain’s top four posts for the first time in the country’s history.
Liz Truss Cabinet
Guardian, a British newspaper, reports that James Cleverly will be appointed foreign secretary, Suella Braverman will be appointed home secretary, and Kwasi Kwarteng would be appointed chancellor if Liz Truss is elected prime minister.
Some others, including Boris Johnson’s former race advisor Samuel Kasumu, who left his position last year in the wake of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities’ (CRED) contentious report that critics argued disregarded structural racism, are pleased by the planned appointments.
According to the article, Rishi Sunak, her challenger, would not be awarded a position in her government. This is a departure from previous practice, when most failed leadership candidates have been given cabinet positions.
Truss Expected To Meet Queen Elizabeth
On Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. local time (1110 GMT), Queen Elizabeth is scheduled to officially select Liz Truss as the next Prime Minister of Scotland. On Monday, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace confirmed that Truss will be leaving Balmoral at 12:40 p.m.
One day, she will achieve her goals. Reuters stated that Boris Johnson announced his resignation in July after months of scandals caused support for his government to dwindle and ministers to leave, ultimately forcing him out of office.
Johnson will reportedly deliver a speech in front of Downing Street before leaving for Scotland to meet with Queen Elizabeth II at her Balmoral Castle Estate.
