‘Sophisticated’ pistol recovered from Jahangirpuri violence accused. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking ‘an impartial probe’ by a panel headed by a sitting judge.

A ‘sophisticated’ pistol was recovered from the 28-year-old man who allegedly opened fire during violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Sunday. A case has been registered against the accused – Sonu alias Yunus, who was arrested the following day. Police identified the accused after a video emerged on social media showing a man in a blue kurta firing a weapon.

A total of 23 people have been arrested and two juveniles detained so far in connection with the incident in which nine people, including eight police personnel and a civilian, were injured. Delhi Police have arrested people from “both communities” for the violence

“One sophisticated pistol was recovered from Sonu alias Yunus … in connection with Jahangirpuri violence. A case under section 25 Arms Act has been registered,” Usha Rangnani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west), said.
“A video was circulated on April 17 on social media showing a man (in a blue kurta) opening fire during the violence in the Jahangirpuri area on April 16. A police team went to his house in CD Park Road in his search and for examination of his family members,” Rangnani said.

Rangnanai said the accused admitted to having fired a weapon.
Clashes broke out between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Saturday evening. Since then, the police have arrested 25 people in connection with the case.

On Monday, the Delhi Police also registered a case against Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal Delhi members for carrying out the procession without permission in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Saturday. Now, VHP has responded to the police’s action. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar has alleged that the incident is part of a conspiracy against Hindus by Pakistan’s ISI and “fundamentalist countries”.

VHP RESPONDS
After the police registered a case against VHP and Bajrang Dal members in connection with the Jahangirpuri incident on Saturday, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal issued a statement. Alleging that the case against VHP members was ‘false’, he said, “Implicating VHP or its workers in false cases will tarnish the image of police itself.”

‘PAK CONSPIRACY’
BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar said on Tuesday that there is a conspiracy by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and “fundamentalist countries” to disturb the lives of Hindus. He is the MLA from Loni in Uttar Pradesh

POLICE STATIONED
Three days after violence broke out in the Jahangirpuri area, security personnel remain stationed there to ensure law and order are maintained. The police team sent to arrest Sonu was attacked Monday after family members threw stones. The police played down the attack, calling it ‘minor’ and ‘one-off’.

POLICE INVESTIGATION
The police initiated their investigation on Saturday night and have arrested 25 people so far. They have raided more than 20 places. As per sources in the Delhi Police, the main accused Ansar received a call when the Hanuman Jayanti procession began in Jahangirpuri on Saturday. It is then that he came to the spot with 4-5 people, as per sources.

The details of the call are being probed. Ansar is in police custody at present. Meanwhile, Sonu, who was arrested on Monday night, will be presented in court on Tuesday. A video of him opening fire during the clash had gone viral. The Delhi Police is also probing a protest organized by the Social Democratic Party of India at Jantar Mantar on the day the Jahangirpuri violence broke out, as per sources.

In a speech at the protest, one person can be heard saying that people dressed as monks go near masjids and give rape threats, according to sources. The police have also purportedly received information that a rumor regarding an attack was spread at the protest.
