Getting a picture of spectacular sunset views, white sand beaches, bizarre rock formations, and few tourists is the elegance you get when visiting New Mexico. The country of Native American heritage, red and green chiles has surprises around every hill and turn that is also highlighted in the phenomenal TV series like the Georgia O’Keeffe and the Breaking Bad.

Thinking about the Carlsbad city, Caverns National Park is perhaps the first thing that comes to mind. However, energetic tourists can choose from many activities and attractions. Keep reading to discover exciting activities in the city of Carlsbad, NM!

Although Carlsbad is located in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert, there is a remarkable variety of recreational activities like the lakes, waterfalls, paths and flora and wildlife, as well as the famous Caverns! Here are the top fun things to do in Carlsbad, New Mexico, that are both active and entertaining.

1.    Sitting Bull Falls

Driving about an hour southwest of Carlsbad, you’ll find the Lincoln National Forest’s Sitting Bull Falls Recreational Area. In an area famed for its enormous desert vistas, this small corner has been adored by both residents and visitors alike for its oasis-like attributes. Visitors come to enjoy the lush vegetation and the soothing sound of the rushing water at Sitting Bull Falls.

Sitting Bull Falls got its name from a 150-foot-tall waterfall accompanied by pools, hiking paths and day-use trails. You can choose to relax or go outside and be active.

There is a 0.7-mile walk that brings you to the top of the falls, where you can see the spring.

I strongly suggest you be well prepared with the correct footwear, safety gear and lots of care before hiking to the top of the mountain. There are various routes for the hike that will enhance your trekking experience.

One more thing you need to remember is that the Recreational Area is only open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entry car for each car is just $5.

2.    Carlsbad Past Historic Buildings, the Pecos River Flume, and Quintessential Southwestern Touches

Carlsbad was one of the most pleasant and unexpected discoveries made for history buffs.

You can drive through Carlsbad homes and turquoise-painted bridges on your way to the top of a hill with a view of Heritage Park and the Pecos River Flume and experience the utopia of historical treasures.

Heritage Park has several historic buildings and relics from Carlsbad’s early days, including the Eddy House, whose history is entwined with that of the county. I recommend stopping and taking a few minutes to look around, and you may see the massive Pecos River Flume and soak in the peace and calm it brings.

3.    Lake Carlsbad and the Pecos River

The Pecos Riverwalk is one of the romantic places in Carlsbad Lake. It follows the shores of the river and is a great place to stroll with your love or run for your evening workout. You may utilize paddleboards, paddleboats, and kayaks if you like to engage in water activities or swim your way to spend the whole day being active in nature. There is also a great marketplace with places to eat.

The bright and dark, the severely dry and the lush, all coexist in Carlsbad, New Mexico’s landscape. I highly recommend you to visit Carlsbad city as it is one of the most beautiful destinations in New Mexico. Your trip will make you fall in love with the city’s beauty and give you memories you will cherish throughout your life.
